    MXLAN 2024 kicks off in McAllen

    MCALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — McAllen kicked off its annual MXLAN arts and culture festival Friday showcasing vibrant colors, bold sounds and full-of-life festivities.

    The 4th annual MXLAN event returned to the McAllen Convention Center with family-friendly activities to enjoy all weekend long.

    The three-day festival celebrates Latino culture through live art, a music stage an artisan market and food.

    Whether you are joining at MXLAN for the music, arts or culture, you will surely find something to enjoy.

    Entering the festival grounds, you will be welcomed by a sculpture saying “McAllen”, that is being uniquely painted by high school students from PSJA and Edinburg.

    The outdoor artisan market wraps around the Convention Center fountain with over 100 local vendors are in attendance at MXLAN this year.

    MXLAN’s slogan, “These are our roots, we are the flowers”, were represented across the venue with the Pepsi music stage, the Neon Nights 5K run, Sabor a Mexico, live muralists, a traditional burning of the MXLAN letters and fireworks.

    Day one of this year’s festival showcased with a parade by elementary students wearing traditional outfits, followed by vaqueros on horses.

    To recharge and satisfy people’s cravings, Sabor a Mexico featured over 15 restaurants serving Mexican inspired cuisine.

    Latin artists Rubio, Selines and Lunar Heart took the Pepsi Stage Friday night mixing elements of indie, pop and electronic music.

    Over 1,000 people participated in this year’s Neon Nights 5K run, bringing residents from all around the Rio Grande Valley.

    MXLAN’s Friday event wrapped up with a fireworks show display above the Convention Center.

    Saturday’s event will have the exclusive MXLAN SPIRITS, an unlimited tequila taste testing and mezcal tasting experience.

    The final day of MXLAN will feature free two-hour Lucha Libre show with a lineup of top wrestlers.

    The three-day arts, music and culture festival will continue through Sunday, May 5, also known as Cinco de Mayo.
