New superintendent appointed at Mayfield

MAYFIELD, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Board of Education members at the Mayfield Central School District appointed a new superintendent on Tuesday. Christopher Clapper served as superintendent of Alexandria Central School District since 2017 and was signed to a four-year contract with Mayfield, beginning in early July.

Clapper will work closely with the Board of Education and district staff to create a new district literacy program, produce new Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) college courses for all academic departments, start a $6.5 million capital project, and generate revenue and a bus driver pipeline through the creation of a CDL training facility. He even completed a CDL training as part of a campaign encouraging staff to become licensed.

Before his time as Alexandria Central School District’s superintendent, Clapper was the principal of Emily Howland Elementary School in Aurora. His career in education began as a high school social studies teacher at South Cayuga School District.

Clapper said he’s looking forward to meeting with stakeholders and learning about the opportunities and priorities he shares with the Mayfield district. “In my very first discussion with the Mayfield board, I could sense their commitment and genuine excitement for supporting students and staff in the district,” he said.

Board of Education President Aaron Flynn said HFM BOCES District Superintendent David Ziskin assisted in Clapper’s hire as the search consultant. “The process of identifying and hiring a superintendent is one of the most important responsibilities that we face as board members. Dr. Ziskin and his team facilitated a thorough search, and we thank our community for providing the guidance needed to make a fantastic choice for our next school leader,” Flynn said.
