    TCU softball picks up pair of victories over Mayer Lutheran

    Tuesday night, the Tri-City United softball team hosted the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders in a conference showdown. The Titans outscored the Crusaders 19-4 in the doubleheader, picking up their fifth win in the last six games.

    With the victories, TCU is now 5-7 (5-5 MRC) on the season.

    In game one, Adison Schroer got the start in the circle for the Titans, earning the win in seven innings while striking out 11 and allowing just two runs on four hits.

    TCU struck quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first inning beginning with an RBI double from Avery Lerfald. A fielder’s choice groundout to second scored a second run before Schroer aided her own cause with an RBI single that scored Lerfald.

    Anne Cooper followed that up with a triple to centerfield that scored a fourth run. Mayer Lutheran scored its only two runs in the top of the third inning with an RBI single and a sac fly, but would never truly threaten to score again. Audrey Vosejpka hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and Lerfald drilled a triple that scored a sixth run.

    The seventh and final run of the of the game was scored when Morgan Fredrickson grounded out to third, allowing Lerfald to score on the delayed throw, resulting in the 7-2 victory.

    In game two, Claire Hoefs started in the circle for TCU and she earned the victory in five innings, allowing five hits and two runs with four strikeouts. The offense of the Titans was consistent throughout, scoring three runs in the second and fifth inning while adding six runs in the top of the fourth.

    Eight different TCU batters recorded at least one hit with Lexi Factor, Cristina Cruz and Lerfald all finishing with two each.

    The Titans are scheduled to return to action Thursday, May 9, when they travel to St. Peter to face off against the Saints. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
