ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC. ( WFXR ) — Four men from Virginia are in custody after allegedly leading North Carolina deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen car on April 26.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:15 a.m., a deputy observed a Dodge Charger allegedly speeding on the US-220 Bypass. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly refused to stop.

During the pursuit, the deputy lost sight of the car; however, another deputy spotted the Dodge on the NC 704. Law enforcement again attempted to stop the car, but the driver again allegedly fled from deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office says the chase continued across Rockingham County and into the Reidsville area. The car turned onto Lawsonville Avenue near Bass Road, where the driver and passengers then abandoned the car and allegedly ran into the woods.

After searching the area, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office found and arrested four people.

As the investigation developed, deputies ran the plates on the Dodge and discovered it was stolen from Raleigh. It was also revealed that the plates on the car did not match but were from different Dodge with a similar make and model.

“It was not until Deputies ran the vehicle’s VIN that they discovered it was stolen, as the tags had not yet been reported stolen,” said the Sheriff’s Office in a release.
