LETTER: ‘Vote, and vote yes’ – 9th grade student adds voice to school budget debate
As a 9th grader at Harwood Union High School, I am concerned about the budget. Part of what's missing from this conversation is the student voice, and I'd like to contribute mine, and talk about how this problem, from my perspective, will affect our school community not only now, but in the future.
Road Work | May 20-24
Road Work is compiled from reports from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS), Waterbury Public Works, and other local highway departments. Work is under way now on Guptil Road on Bridge 4 (actually the third bridge from Rt. 100 heading to Waterbury Center) just south of the Kneeland Flats Road intersection. The town road crew asks motorists to please slow down traveling through the narrow work zone. The road will remain open during the rehab project which is expected to take until mid-July to be completed.

Super Senior: Mary Wells
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - Mary Wells savors the many seasons on her land in Berlin. “Probably spring, all of... No, I summer and fall and winter sometimes,” she said. Wells grew up just down the hill. A tomboy of sorts, she took up a course in drafting in high school. “I like to do things that other girls hadn’t done,” she said.
LETTER: Budget uncertainty could spark ‘an exodus of qualified early and mid-career teachers’
My name is Larry Gravelle and I’m a 20-year veteran high school English teacher who is just finishing his first year at Harwood Union High School. I live in Moretown with my wife, who is a math and science teacher at HUHS, and we’re raising our eight-year-old son in this incredible community- a community that drew us from Colorado due in part to its wonderful elementary school, small class sizes (it matters!) and overall support for public education. We are homeowners facing the same tax increases as our friends and neighbors. I am writing this letter to urge those in our community who are on the fence to vote yes on this current budget. If our community fails to pass this budget, we face losing many more student-facing positions and could, I fear, jeopardize the sustainability of our district.
