18 recruits graduate from the fire training academy
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Friday morning, 18 firefighter recruits graduated from the Vernon A Gudat Training Academy. The graduation was put on by the Peoria Fire Department at the Gateway Building in Peoria. Man in critical condition following shooting in Peoria, police say
A 41-year-old man is in critical condition following a shooting Wednesday afternoon north of Downtown Peoria. Mayor Mary Burress wants to keep Pekin a home rule municipality
PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — Monday night, Pekin Mayor Mary Burress issued the deciding vote to defeat a proposal to have a referendum that would end the city’s home rule status. A home rule municipality can enact rules that have a direct local impact and provides for a home rule sales tax. That sales tax is what city staff says generates $8,000,000 per year.
OSF HealthCare names 4 new leaders

Chris Curry has accepted the position of president for OSF HealthCare Transitional Care Hospital in Peoria, according to financial documents published May 13. Mr. Curry most recently served as interim president of OSF Transitional Care Hospital, having previously been the CEO of Kindred Hospital in Peoria.
