    Brother, sister arrested after Marion, Va. shootings

    MARION, Va. (WJHL) — A brother and sister were arrested on May 3 after police say two Friday shootings in Marion, Virginia were related.

    According to a spokesperson for the City of Marion, the Marion Police Department (MPD) and deputies with the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the Marion Farmers Market and East Town Street regarding a person being shot around 3 p.m.

    Upon arrival, police found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen . The man was reportedly airlifted to a hospital.

    The MPD identified the alleged shooter as Andre Douglas Hickman, 19, of Tazewell, Virginia.

    Further investigation determined an altercation occurred in the Marion Famers Market parking lot before the shooting. A motive for the shooting has not been determined, according to the police department.

    Andre Hickman was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and aggravated malicious wounding.

    As of Monday, Andre Hickman is being held without bond at the Abingdon Regional Jail.

    Shortly after the first shooting, the MPD received a report of shots fired on South Iron Street/East Town Street, near the same area of the first shooting.

    Witnesses reportedly told police they heard gunshots and saw a small dark-colored sedan leaving the scene. The vehicle was later located driving on Park Boulevard.

    A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and four individuals were interviewed.

    During the investigation, police report one of the individuals, identified as Amaya Marie Beatrice Hickman, 21, fired a weapon out of the window of the vehicle.

    Before the shooting, she allegedly attempted to break into a residence on South Iron Street/East Town Street.

    Amaya Hickman was charged with discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm and breaking and entering. She is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, as of Monday.
