OCONTO FALLS — The Marinette High School softball team opened a five-game week with North Eastern Conference losses at Denmark on Monday and at Oconto Falls on Tuesday.
Denmark (12-5, 11-3 NEC) took a run-shortened 12-2 win on Monday, while Oconto Falls (8-5, 8-4 NEC) rode a four-run second inning to a 5-2 win in Tuesday’s contest.
The Marines fell to 2-9 on the season with the losses.
Against Denmark, the Marines put two runs on the board in the top of the first, but the Vikings responded with three in the bottom of the frame, four more in the second and two in the third.
Four Marinette errors aided the Vikings’ cause. Bri Adamski took the loss after allowing 12 runs, eight earned on 12 hits and two walks.
Barrett Cole was 2-for-3 with a double in the loss while Kaya Bodam was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
The middle of the Marinette order got the job done against Oconto Falls. Wynn Erdman, Bodam and Regan Hermanson (batting third, fourth and fifth in the order) combined to go 7-for-10 with three doubles. However, the remainder of the lineup was held hitless by Panther hurler Miranda Metzler.
After the Panthers got on the board in the first inning, a Marinette error left the door open to a four-run second inning for Oconto Falls.
The Marines were able to scrape together single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings.
Metzler earned the win after allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Erdman took a tough loss after allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits and one walk while striking out six.
Hermanson was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Bodam went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, and Erdman was 2-for-4 at the plate.
