APPLETON, Wis. — The Marinette High School track and field posted several strong individual performances during a North Eastern Conference Pentangular meet at Fox Valley Lutheran High School on Tuesday.

Sophomore sprinter Mason Hofherr was a breath away from knocking off a school record that has stood for 60 years.

Don Beerbaum set the school mark in the 400m dash with a hand-timed mark of 50.85 seconds in 1964, making it the oldest standing record in the Marinette books.

That record has been under assault this season. Jackson Draheim approached the mark with a time of 52.26 seconds at Wrightstown two weeks ago.

On Tuesday, Hofherr and Draheim ran side-by-side and Hofherr laid down a time of 50.98, just 0.13 seconds off of Beerbaum’s record pace. Hofherr easily took first in the race while Draheim was second at 53.66 and Wrightstown’s Mathias Schroth was third at 55.24.

For good measure Hofherr took a crack at the school mark in the 200m as well.

That record was set at 22.52 seconds by Chris Uecke in 2001. On Thursday, Hofherr missed Uecke’s pace by just 0.54 seconds, covering the distance in 23.06 seconds to take his second victory of the day.

Hofherr also took third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.68 seconds. For those keeping score, the school record in that event is 10.75 seconds set by Dakota Vanidestine in 2013.

Draheim completed a solid day by placing second in the pole vault at 11’0 and anchoring the 4x400m relay. Draheim, Nicholas Hruska, Kaiden Brown and Hunter Schneider finished second in the relay at 3:47.65.

Kaiden Brown added points to the Marinette effort with a sixth-place finish in the 200m at 24.11 seconds.

Schneider and Evan Reines finished seventh and eighth in the 800m run at 2:17.62 and 2:17.70 respectively. Brady Menor was fifth in the 1600m run with a time of 5:23.32.

The Marines also took first in the 4x100m relay where Brown, Braxton Polzin, Evan Berg and Mason Floriano carried the baton 400m in 48.45 seconds.

In the throws, Caden Genrich and Frankie Marquardt scored in both the shot put and discus.

Genrich won the discus with a toss of 136-11 while Marquardt was fifth at 103-02, and in the shot put Genrich was the runner-up at 43-10.50 while Marquardt was fourth at 41-06.00.

For the Marinette girls, freshman Bailey Krouth scored in three events with three personal records.

    Krouth posted a third-place finish in the 400m (1:05.88), a seventh-place finish in the 100m (13.72) and an eighth-place finish in the 200m (28.62).

Lauren Sadowski finished fifth in the 400m at 1:07.28.

Anna Marzahl and Madison Kunick placed third and fourth in the 800m run at 2:39.42 and 2:41.54, marking PR’s for both athletes.

Addison Lacy took fourth in the 1600m with a time of 5:58.84, and the team of Lacy, Sadowski, Marzahl and Kunick placed fourth in the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 10:47.07.

Sadowski was fifth in the pole vault at 6-6.00, and Marzahl took fifth in the high jump at 4-06.

Nat Poquette placed sixth in the discus at 83-03 and sixth in the shot put at 28-06.00 while Jaydn Sherwood was seventh in the shot put at 27-11.50.
