Cobb Police have identified the woman killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning near Osborne High School.

Maria Perez Gonzalez, 21, of Marietta, died after she was struck first by a Ford van and then again by a Chrysler traveling behind the Ford north on Austell Road, Officer Aaron Wilson, Cobb Police spokesperson, said Wednesday.

Cobb Police initially identified Gonzalez as a Hispanic woman between her late 20s and early 40s.

Gonzalez was crossing Austell Road at a marked crosswalk near Osborne High around 5:30 a.m. Saturday when a white 2014 Ford Econoline driving northbound struck her by the driver’s side mirror, police said.

Gonzalez was projected and thrown onto the road, where she was struck again by a Chrysler traveling behind the Ford. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chrysler driver, 49-year-old Marietta resident John Anderson, was not injured and safely stopped his vehicle to wait for authorities to arrive, per police. The driver of the Ford continued northbound and did not stop to render aid or contact authorities.

Police were still searching for the Ford driver as of Tuesday morning, according to Wilson.

Cobb Police ask anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 770-499-3987.
