The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating the deaths of two men found early Friday, March 22, on Avenue A in Marathon.

Deputies responded to 104 Avenue A at 6:30 a.m. where they met with a man who had found the deceased men near the rear of a car parked in the area. He said he was a friend of one of the men.

The deputy reported seeing no obvious signs of foul play, and the case was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.

The men have been identified as 68-year-old Carlos Bascoy and 27-year-old Steven Thompson, both Marathon residents.

Detectives are working to determine how the two men died.

On Thursday, March 21, a Big Pine Key man listed as one of the most wanted in the county was arrested on an outstanding warrant, charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s house, breaking a number of items and violently punching her and pushing her to the ground twice, both inside and outside of the house.

The incident took place on March 9. The victim called the Sheriff’s Office to report Bruce Mills, 40, entered her house while she was sleeping and yelled at her. He then broke an Xbox, a computer monitor and a stroller. When she tried to stop him, he punched her in the mouth and pushed her to the ground. He fled the scene. When she followed, he pushed her to the ground again outside the front door.

Deputies were unable to find him that night; they returned to the scene at 5 a.m. because she called to say he’d returned and was banging on the door. He fled again before they could respond.

A warrant was obtained for his arrest on charges of burglary with assault/battery, battery and criminal mischief and was served just before midnight on Thursday. Bond was set at $80,000.
