The pizza dough and axes are now flying at Broadway Pizza in Maple Grove at 7890 Main St., near the Maple Grove Government Center. The return of the restaurant came April 28, after the previous location closed in fall 2022 after that owner retired and sold the land and building.

Along with a new location, this Broadway Pizza offers axe throwing. Broadaxe Axe Throwing, part of the International Axe Throwing Federation, has an area inside the same building as Broadway, but is be separated by glass. Restaurant patrons can see the axe throwing while they eat.

Matt Pohlkamp, CEO of MKA Enterprises and general manager of the new Maple Grove Broadway, said the remodel of the building on Main Street took a little longer than originally planned.

“We were anticipating roughly 10-12 weeks but unfortunately, when you are doing a bunch of demo and gutting out a place, you run into things that you normally wouldn’t, so it took roughly 15 weeks from the start,” he said.

He said the building includes a more open concept, after private dining spaces and cabinetry above the bar were removed. He said it made the space more inviting for customers.

Pohlkamp said being back in Maple Grove with a Broadway Pizza location is a great feeling. He added that people were excited the restaurant is back in the community.

He added, “So many people are excited we are back and with this ever-growing community we have also become the ‘new’ restaurant in Maple Grove. It’s the best of both worlds.”

The responses from the community have been good, according to Pohlkamp. He said, “People are so excited to have us back.”

Those people coming to the restaurant will have the traditional Broadway menu.

“They are happy to be able to get their favorites here,” he added. “When people walk in they still get that consistent Broadway Bar and Pizza feel but we have also created a really fun atmosphere.”

Pohlkamp invites people to stop by and check out the restaurant and the other amenities it has to offer. He said there is something for everyone. There are eight 65” TVs above the bar for sports enthusiasts. Activities at Broadway include dart boards, Golden Tee and Buck Hunter.

“Broadaxe is now officially open,” he said. “We are accepting one hour, walk-in style, mini sessions for $25 per person or they can book a full ‘AXEperience’ with a minimum of four people for two hours for only $40 per person.”

People can visit broadaxemn.com for more details and to book.

“We are the first axe-throwing concept style Broadway Bar and Pizza and people are loving it,” Pohlkamp said.
