    Maple Grove team recaps from last week

    The following is a recap of Maple Grove games that took place last week.

    Crimson sneak by Tornados to retain .500 record

    Maple Grove baseball saw their winning streak come to an end after they lost 2-1 to Buffalo on April 22 and 11-7 to Elk River the day after. On April 25, Maple Grove got back to .500 with a 3-2 win against Anoka.

    Evan O’Dwyer drove in Nathan Schmidt with a sacrifice fly during the top of the sixth inning for the Crimson’s only score against the Bison.

    The Elk blew the game open five a five-run fourth against Maple Grove. Kellen Riskedahl went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Brody Berglin scored three times. Kaden Harney drove in three runs.

    Maple Grove trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Harney scored on a sacrifice bunt and then Dylan Vokal scored Brady Aubut for the game-winning run. O’Dwyer won the game after striking out seven batters in six innings. Berglin closed the door with a hitless seventh inning. Two of his outs were recorded on strikes.

    More top finishes for boys’ golfers

    The Crimson played in The Preview on Friday, April 26 in Edinburgh, a day after playing in a conference event. On April 22, Maple Grove played in the second Northwest Suburban Conference event of the season at Baker National Golf Course.

    Maple Grove (610) tied for third at The Preview. Senior Ryan Stendahl (second, 73), senior Gavin Grahek (16th, 77), sophomore Zach Johnson (T-35, 80), junior Davis Tripp (T-35, 80) and junior Peyton Dingel (85) all played for Maple Grove.

    During the third conference meet, Maple Grove (300) finished second to Spring Lake Park by five shots. Junior Aidan Steel (third, 72), Stendahl (ninth, 75), Johnson (11th, 76) and Grahek (16th, 77) scored for the Crimson. Tripp (79) and Dingel (83) also played.

    At Baker National, Maple Grove (300) finished five strokes behind the Panthers for second place again. Johnson (second, 73), Steel (eighth, 76), Grahek (11th, 77) and Trip (T-15, 79) finished in the top four team scores. Dingel (T-15) and Stendahl (80) were the other golfers playing for the Crimson.

    Girls having lots of fun on golf course

    Two more events, two more wins for the Maple Grove girls’ golf team. They played at Majestic Oaks on back-to-back days. On April 25, they played in the Northwest Suburban Conference Mid Season Meet and a day later they had a dual meet against Anoka.

    Maple Grove had six of the top seven scores against Anoka. Freshman Annika Hendrickson (+3) won the meet. Senior Amelia Morton and freshman Emerson Soderberg (+5) tied for second and senior McKenna Hogan (+6) finished fourth. Freshman Payton Anderson (+8) and sophomore Abby Stendahl (+11) also played.

    Maple Grove (325) won the Mid Season Meet by 21 strokes over Totino-Grace (346). Morton (77) won the meet. Hendrickson (80) tied for fourth while Hogan and Soderberg (84) tied for ninth. Anderson (87) and Stendahl (89) also had top 20 scores.

    Hats off to the Crimson

    The Maple Grove boys’ lacrosse team beat Totino-Grace 19-2, lost 14-7 to Lakeville North and then beat Elk River/Zimmerman 19-6.

    Landon Bakke and Grant Jensen (three assists) had four-goal games against TG on April 24. Ricky Peterson had a hat trick. Brady Meline made seven saves in net.

    Bakke had another three goals against the Panthers on April 27. Tyler Steinkopf had two goals and three assists. Meline made seven more saves.

    Thor Soukup, Peterson, Jensen and Bakke scored hat tricks against the Elks on Monday. Meline had his lucky seven saves.

    On the season, Maple Grove is 4-2.

    Two more for the Crimson

    Maple Grove girls’ lacrosse won their last two games and are 4-1 this season. On April 24, the Crimson beat Totino-Grace/St. Anthony 21-3. On April 29, they beat Elk River/Zimmerman 10-9.

    Ryley Dunn scored six goals, Lillian Iverson and Megan Van Curler had four-goal games and Sosi Van Wyk (seven assists) had a hat trick against TG/SAV.

    Van Wyk scored four more goals against the Elks. Dunn and Van Curler scored twice. Jayde Isaacson scored the other goal. Abby Quiram made five saves in the win.
