HS Softball: Corning offense steals show in Elmira stadium opener
Elmira celebrated the opening of its new softball stadium Monday afternoon. Tough part for the Express is Corning felt right at home at Elmira's new digs. The Hawks turned 11 hits, 10 walks and aggressive base running into an 18-2 Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory at Elmira High School. A 10-run fourth inning was followed by a five-run fifth, the final inning thanks to the mercy rule.

The wife of a recently hired worker at Corning Glass Works, she didn’t see places that appealed to families, just bars and shoe stores for the men. Shining a light on 10 graduates from the Elmira-Corning region who excelled at the college level this winter and into spring. Horseheads alumna Sophia Verkleeren secured All-American recognition in seven events for the Williams College women's swimming & diving team, which placed fourth in Division III nationals the week of March 20-23 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Verkleeren won two national titles, giving her four in her career.
