MANCHESTER, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A state of emergency has been declared in Manchester due to a propane leak that caused a fire.

Clay County Emergency Management (CCEM) worked to evaluate the leak and control a reported fire that began on a “piece of equipment” at a nearby Vinland Energy facility on Gabbard Fork Road.

On Thursday, CCEM provided an update saying that a one-mile radius of the scene has been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Landmark of Laurel Creek posted a release on Facebook announcing that Manchester has issued a state of emergency after authorities notified the nursing home of the leak.

According to Landmark of Laurel Creek, nursing home residents and staff were evacuated “swiftly and efficiently, with the assistance of emergency services and our dedicated staff members.”

CCEM said crews worked alongside multiple emergency personnel and first responders to evacuate the nursing home occupants.

“The fire is small, controlled and poses no environmental or safety concerns at this time and no impact to the surrounding community. No injuries have been reported,” CCEM announced on Facebook earlier on Wednesday.

CCEM said in a release on Facebook that they will provide an update on the controlled fire and subsequent evacuation at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
