MAHOPAC, N.Y. —The Wolf Pac boys lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season last Friday, defeating Arlington, 8-7, in a game played at Mahopac High School.

Mahopac trailed by two (4-2) at halftime, but after some inspiration from coaches Jon Bota and Mike Haddeland during the break, the Pac came out on fire in the third, with senior captain Danny Koch scoring four consecutive goals to put Mahopac up, 6-4.

The Wolf Pac added two more scores to go up 8-5 before Arlington closed the gap for the final margin.

Koch, headed for D1 St. Johns next season, notched the 100th goal of his four-year, varsity career, and added an assist. Senior captain Liam Scanlon added a goal and two assists, and Liam Jones had one goal. Cam Hart won 15 of 19 faceoffs, and keeper Lucas Lambertson had seven saves in net for the Pac.

“In the first half we were not good,” Haddeland said of Mahopac’s start. “We’re still young, and still working on fixing mistakes. In the second half, we challenged them. Both coaches challenged them. Then Cam won the faceoff, and Koch and Scanlon took the challenge. And our defense really came through in the second half.”

Haddeland said Koch is one of the top midfielders to come through the program.

“He’s been steady all season, he’s a senior leader,” he said. “And the opponent’s best defender is always on him. He rises to the occasion. He’s an All-American and the No. 1 midfield scorer in Mahopac High School history. And I can’t say enough about his character.”

Koch is the 10th Mahopac player to go over 100 goals, and is currently sixth all-time in total points, with 167.

The Pac dropped an 11-7 decision the prior Saturday (April 20) at Byram Hills. Koch had four goals and one assist in the loss, Brayden Torrey had a goal and an assist, Patrick Mahoney and Jones each had a goal, and Quinn Kelleher had an assist. Lambertson had 18 saves in net for Mahopac (1-8).

Mahopac is scheduled to host Ardsley on Thursday (May 2) at 5 p.m.
