CN: First Grain Unit Train Shipped from Expanded Total Grain Marketing Facility in Illinois

CN has shipped the first unit train from Total Grain Marketing’s recently expanded grain elevator at Lis, Illinois. The expansion at Lis included a new 115-car loop track that replaces the existing 25-car footprint, along with expanded receiving, storage, and shipping capacity. It also included the construction of 3.1 million bushels of grain storage capacity along with three truck dump pits that allow the facility to receive up to 85,000 bushels of grain per hour.

According to this morning’s numbers from GasBuddy.com, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.38, five cents lower than Monday. Here in Illinois, the statewide average is down seven cents at $4.68. In Indiana, the statewide average is $3.79 a gallon, a dime lower than the beginning of the week, making Indiana the “low price leader.” California has the highest prices in the nation, with a statewide average of $6.39 a gallon, an eight-cent increase from Monday.

Illinois Fuel Prices Slip but Remain High

Gas prices are easing slightly in Illinois, but drivers are still paying far more than they were just weeks ago. AAA reports the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded dropped two cents Wednesday to $4.74. That’s still 46 cents higher than one month ago, and $1.37 above the price from this time last year. Across the border in Indiana, the average is much lower at $3.83 a gallon — 91 cents below Illinois. Nationwide, AAA puts the average at $4.43, keeping Illinois well above the national mark as motorists continue watching prices closely.
