    Madras girl tennis hosts Steve Rankin Invitational

    The Madras High School girls tennis team hosted the Steve Rankin Invitational on Saturday, April 27.

    The eight-team tournament is played in a round robin format with each of the eight schools’ No. 1 singles playing seven games against each other, with No. 2 singles players facing each other and No. 1 and No. 2 doubles doing the same.

    Players earn a point for each game they win, with the team that earns the most total points winning the tournament.

    Baker won the event with 141 points. They were followed by Stayton, 126, Crook County, 117, Cascade, 110, Madras White, 107, Sisters, 65, Henley, 63, and Madras Blue, 56. Estacada was scheduled to participate in the tournament, but were unable to attend, so the host White Buffalos added a second team from Madras.

    The highest placers for the White Buffalos were the No. 2 doubles combo of Yashira Chavaro and Arely Alonso, who finished second in their division with 34 points. Cascade’s Kahryn Delamarter and Samantha Sandall took first with 43 points. Crook County’s Aubrie Olson and Mikayla Giard finished third with 30 points.

    Madras No. 2 singles player Idaly Romero also had a good tournament, finishing third with 34 points. Baker’s Liz Timm won the division with 39 points, while Stayton’s Lorelei Ritchie was second with 35 points. Cypress Toman, competing for the Madras Blue team finished fifth with 22 points.

    No. 1 singles was won by Laina Atiyeh of Stayton with 41 points, while Crook County’s Sami Ramos was second with 38 points and Baker’s Ludo Tricartco took third with 30 points. Madras No. 1 singles player Mia Mitchell finished fifth with 19 points, while Nancy Quinto, who competed for the Madras Blue team was sixth with 18 points.

    Baker’s Olivia Jacoby and Kaitlyn Schwin took first at No. 1 doubles with 41 points, while Katie Ryan and Shea Wyland of Sisters took second with 33 points and Crook County’s Delaney Engstrom and Haven Housley finished third with 30 points. Myah Pope and Hayley Burts finished with 20 points for the White Buffalos, good for sixth place, while teammates Diana Melo Reyes and Ana Olivares finshed in seventh place with 16 points.
