MADISON, Wis. -- UW-Madison police arrested a man Saturday night who they said was drunk and kicked officers.

Officers were called to Memorial Library at around 8 p.m. for a report of an intoxicated man in the lobby. Police found the 19-year-old man seated in the corner of the lobby.

Police said the man was slurring his speech and yelling at officers. It was determined that he was incapacitated and needed to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, the man allegedly struggled with officers who tried to remove him from their squad car. He allegedly continued to resist and yell once inside the hospital.

After being medically cleared, officers got ready to take the man to the Dane County Jail. Police said he began thrashing and kicking. Four UWPD officers were injured during the incident.

The man was eventually detained and taken to the jail. He faces four counts of battery to a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting. He was also cited for underage drinking-third offense and possession of a fake ID.

Police said the man is not affiliated with UW-Madison.
