UW-Madison Police to provide free repair vouchers to drivers

MADISON, Wis. -- To help drivers avoid mechanical violation citations, the UW-Madison Police Department announced Monday a voucher program for a free repair.

It is part of a larger partnership with "Lights On!," and is the first such partnership in Wisconsin.

Through the program, when a UWPD officer is engaged in a routine traffic stop involving a mechanical violation, instead of issuing a ticket for the violation, the officer can provide a voucher for free repair at a participating local auto repair shop.

Such violations include a burned out light bulb, or a broken turn signal.

"Lights On!" is partnered with 163 law enforcement agencies across 21 states and has 10,000 repair voucher redeemed.
