Wildcats Fall To Columbia In Double Overtime…Prep Boys Basketball
The Salem Wildcats fell at home to visiting Columbia 44-40 in double overtime last night at B.E. Gum. Columbia had a shot at the buzzer at the end of regulation but couldn’t get the go ahead bucket. Salem trailed by 3 in the 2nd overtime with 3 seconds left but missed 2 of 3 free throws and the Eagles Sam Donald finished off the game hitting 2 free throws to ice it. Donald struggled from the field but the 6-8 guard still finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The Cats struggled from the free throw line as a team shooting just 6 of 12 while the Eagles made 12 of 16. Salem out rebounded the Eagles 20-19. Noah Nix led Salem with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Connor Tennyson added 8 and Sam Greene finished with 6. Salem falls to 2-7 on the season and 0-2 in the Cahokia as they get set to host Olney on Tuesday.

Lady Cats Fall At Columbia…Prep Girls Basketball
The Salem Lady Wildcats dropped their 4th game out of their last 5 with a Cahokia loss at Columbia 56-40. The Midgets had a 19-6 lead after the opening quarter and led 31-14 at the halftime break. Salem went on a run in the 4th quarter and cut the deficit to 14 with the ball, but wouldn’t get any closer. Kayla Felgenhaur scored 9 of her team-high 12 points in the 4th quarter. Marah Johnson was also in double figures with 10. Columbia was led by their two-headed monster as point guard Sam Schmuke finished with 19 and center Jordan Holten finished with 18. Salem will be back in action at home on Tuesday when they welcome Newton on Monday.
