During Mental Health Awareness Month, a mother’s grief inspires art in St. Pete
ST. PETERSBURG — Genevieve “Vevie” Lykes Dimmitt has always been inspired by nature. As a native Floridian growing up in the varied landscapes of the state’s swamp, coast and the rolling hills, the artist’s love for nature is intrinsic, as is her instinct to protect it. Over the years, she’s contributed artwork to several exhibitions dedicated to the state’s conservation.
Pop songwriter Upsahl opens for Madison Beer in St. Pete on Wednesday
From the moment Taylor Upsahl stepped onstage to help kickoff day two of 2021’s 97X Next Big Thing, I knew Tampa Bay was witnessing history. Though most of the instrumentation behind her was pre-recorded, her bass lines, guitar work, and lyrics about social anxiety resonated with her small-but-mighty crowd. Last year, the 25-year-old headlined a gig at Ybor City’s Crowbar while performing the majority of her album Lady Jesus. Expect Upsahl’s set opening for Madison Beer to be filled with plenty from her new album The PHX Tapes. Tickets to see Madison Beer and Upsahl play Jannus Live in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, May 22 are still available and start at $42.50. Subscribe to Creative Loafing newsletters.
