1 man dead after a shooting at a Macon gathering, sheriff’s office says

A man was shot Sunday while attending a gathering on Cedar Avenue, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said it responded to a report of a person shot at a duplex.

Upon arrival, deputies said they found Gregory William Thomas, 36, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies said Thomas was attending a gathering on Cedar Avenue. While sitting on the front porch, gunshots were heard.

Thomas was transported to the hospital where he later died, according to medical staff. His next of kin has been notified.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were still under investigation Sunday. More information was expected to be released as it became available.
