The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 780 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on May 2.

The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 7039 Mableton Parkway in Mableton and discharged into the tributary to the Chattahoochee River.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on May 2 at 11:40 a.m. and the overflow was stopped on May 2 at 1:50 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival observed sewage surfacing in the road. A manhole was recently paved over preventing access to the sewer line. The sewage left a 2-foot by 20-foot area that led into a stormwater catch basin which flows into the tributary. After using a jet machine to unstop the line, the crew washed down the road. During their time onsite, the crew did not observe any fish kills.

For more information, call the Cobb County Water System’s Maintenance Division at 770-419-6351.
