STORM ALERT WEATHER 3 FORECAST: Hot & humid Friday, mostly dry holiday weekend
As sunshine continues to beam down on us this Friday afternoon, temperatures have soared into the mid 80s to low 90s with dew points holding strong in the 70s. This combo has resulted in heat index values in the triple digits for many of us, Rochester included. This day does look to be the warmest in the foreseeable future thanks to the high pressure ridge axis peaking over SE Minnesota and North Iowa as part of a persistent "omega block" pattern. A slow-moving front is in the process of crossing over us, sparking some storm activity across the southeastern portion of our area. These storms will continue to move east and out before sunset.

UPDATE: Damage caused by powerful wind gusts early Wednesday morning
(KIMT) -- A one-two punch of strong to severe storms early Wednesday morning brought up to 62 MPH wind gusts in SE Minnesota and 59 MPH wind gusts in North Iowa. Rochester, MN takes the crown for the highest wind gusts from a bowing segment of storms, while Forest City managed to receive the 59 MPH wind gust. A healthy tree was toppled at the corner of 12 St NW and 10 1/2 Ave NW in Rochester, crushing part of a parked car.
