Sacramento State falls to Ohio, extending losing streak to five games
The Sacramento State Hornets added another loss to their tally on Saturday, falling by 41 points — their most resounding loss to date in the Mid-American Conference that they joined this season. It was the Ohio Bobcats’ (5-2, 3-0 MAC) first visit to Sacramento, and it ended in a 48-7 homecoming loss for the Hornets. Sac State managed to get points on the board with a fourth-quarter touchdown by wide receiver Kenyon Shabazz. The loss marks the Hornets’ fifth in a row. So far this season, the Hornets (1-6, 0-4 MAC) have lost to their MAC opponents by an average of 27 points. Their only win came against Mississippi Valley State, a 52-0 nonconference victory. The Hornets paid an $18 million entry fee, spread out over the five-year agreement, to join the MAC earlier this year. Ohio was led by quarterback Nick Poulos, a Granite Bay High School graduate, who threw for 165 yards and one touchdown. The Bobcats rolled up 468 yards on offense to the Hornets’ 267. Sac State will take on Ball State — the MAC’s current second-worst-ranked team — next at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana, on Oct. 24 at 12:30 p.m. Pacific time.
