PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) — Mosley alum, Jake Finch earned his first ARCA Menards Series wins while making history in Talladega.

In the General Tire 200, Finch earned his first ARCA Menards Series victory.

“It’s a little bit different than any other sport,” Finch said. “In baseball, you’ve got about 162 games, right? In a really good season, you might win 100 of them. It’s not like that in racing. If you win one, one or a few times in a year, you’re pretty good.”

Finch was all about celebrating the moment in victory lane.

“I’m a big celebration guy,” Finch said. “I feel like some people when they don’t really show their excitement too much and I, I feel like, you achieve something like that. I definitely want to show my excitement.”

Finch created history by becoming the first driver in the series to lead a race wire-to-wire in Talladega.

“I didn’t think too much about the history aspect of leading the laps,” Finch said. “I just try to go out there and do my job and really just get the trophy.”

Finch has led 141 of 160 laps in the two ARCA superspeedways this season. That is over 88% of all laps.

“I’m super grateful to be in that position, to be able to lead those laps,” Finch said. “Not only that but to be able to win at Talladega is always a great feeling.”

Finch suffered a tough loss earlier in the year in Daytona. After leading for 60 out of 80 laps he crashed into the wall and finished eleventh.

“I wanted to go out there and do the best I could and not get myself into a position where I could have lost the race,” Finch said. “Just do everything I could and not get to the point where I could have been taken advantage of by anybody in the field.”

Finch is already preparing for the next race. He’ll be competing in Pensacola and Mobile this weekend.
