Donaldsonville Juneteenth Music Festival celebrates 29 years
DONALDSONVILLE - Donaldsonville residents celebrated at the town's 29th annual Juneteenth Music Festival on Saturday. Even though the federal holiday is always on June 19 — in commemoration of the day in 1865 when the last slaves in Galveston, Texas were notified of their freedom — Louisianians kicked off celebrations over the weekend.
Gonzales hosts Pelican Classic All-Breed Dog Show at Lamar Dixon
GONZALES — Another dog show is coming to the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales this weekend. The Pelican Classic All-Breed Dog Show hosted by the Northlake Kennel Club of Greater Covington kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday at Lamar Dixon's REV Center. Judging starts each morning at 8:30.

PLD v. ARBC turf war over Bayou Manchac drainage project
All of the interested parties seem in agreement, Bayou Manchac Regional Flood Risk Reduction is a project worth getting done, and the sooner the better. Two multi-parish agencies (Pontchartrain Levee District and Amite River Basin Commission) have publicly prioritized the project, the latter excluded from participation until PLD approves it. Starting to seem like a turf war, ARBC is without ammunition even while it has funding to begin the project.
Multiple Juneteenth events taking place this weekend throughout BR area
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - There are multiple Juneteenth events taking place throughout the Baton Rouge area on Saturday, June 15. The annual Juneteenth celebration presented by Rep. C. Denise Marcelle is taking place between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Gus Young Park. The park is located at 4200 Gus Young Avenue.
UPDATE: Plan to address red dust issues unveiled
On Tuesday Ascension Council Finance Committee recommended a $200,000 contract increase for ELOS Environmental to remedy lingering red dust issues along the Hwy 44 corridor south of Gonzales. The first task recommended by ELOS is to raise the impoundment barriers designed to contain the waste byproduct generated by multiple corporate entities over nearly seven decades (see above). Ultimately, dirt excavated from parish drainage projects will be employed to cap the mounds, a 6-10″ layer upon which grass will be planted to prevent windborne red dust.
