Beyond the food, visitors can expect to fin a mechanical bull, professional wrestling, pony rides at this weekend’s Food Truck Rodeo at Biggs Park Mall in Lumberton.

LUMBERTON – A mechanical bull. Professional wrestling. Pony rides. A beach music band and lots and lots of different kinds of food, including a banana pudding vendor.

What’s not to like about this weekend’s Carolina Food Truck Rodeo?

The stage will be set in the parking lot behind Black’s Tire & Auto Service and the old JCPenney department store on the premises of Biggs Park Mall in Lumberton.

“It’s just an event to bring some unique kinds of food to the area that ordinarily are not in one spot. You have to run all over town for Hispanic foods, Asian foods, Caribbean-type foods, seafood. It’s all going to be in one place – different kinds of food,” organizer Hubert Bullard said Wednesday.

But it’s not just the unusual roundup of foods.

“We’ve got a number of non-food vendors. Boutiques. Novelties. Caricature artists. Face painters,” Bullard said. “And some home services where you subscribe to a food service. Just a good variety of different types of arts and crafts and businesses.”

An overall 30 food trucks are anticipated.

The Carolina Food Truck Rodeo is planned from 3 p.m.to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free.

Patrons will pay for their food.

Bullard hopes to draw upwards of 5,000 to 8,000 people over the two-day stretch outside the city’s mall.

“A lot of these types of festivals do charge admission,” he said. “It’s going to be free.”

The beach music band Tidal Wave, which includes members from Lumberton, will provide entertainment Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. That will be followed by Ring Wars Carolina professional wrestling.

“On the mechanical bull stage,” Bullard noted, “when they’re not riding the bull, we’ll have music on stage.”

A disc jockey also will be playing music for the festival-goers.

At this rodeo, the food should be lassoing lots of folks in.

“We’ve got some good trucks coming from the Fayetteville area, Raleigh, one from Columbia (South Carolina). There are awesome local food trucks, as well.”

Collard sandwiches, collard wraps, turkey legs, Philly cheesesteaks, funnel cakes are expected to be available from some of the trucks

Some of the mobile food trucks booked for the rodeo include Pass the Pudding from Longs, South Carolina. This outfit specializes in banana pudding. Philly Pretzel Factory from Morgantown, West Virginia, Tacos Las Gringas from Willow Springs and Jason’s Concessions of Maxton should be on site, too.

Jason’s is a mini-doughnut vendor, Bullard said.

“Robeson County doesn’t have many food trucks,” he added. “That business is growing everywhere.
