Welcome To Michigan’s “Little Poland,” Where This Old-School Market Keeps Polish Traditions Alive
A Michigan market ships wood across the Atlantic just to smoke its kielbasa. I had to read that line twice. That detail stuck with me, so I kept digging. The pierogi case reportedly holds around 30 to 40 varieties, with classics sharing space with twists like chili cheese coney and jalapeño popper.

Valet company owner charged after racial slur found on driveway in Novi
The owner of a valet company has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly writing a slur on a Novi couple's driveway. On Sept. 6, an individual in Novi hosted a party and hired a valet company owned by Ayham Nadeem Assi, 22, of West Bloomfield, to provide parking services, the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office said in a press release. At some point that day, neighbors spoke to the host of the party about vehicles that had been parked on their grass, authorities said. Those same neighbors, who are Black, later found a racial slur written on the apron of their driveway, leaving them feeling intimated and targeted due to their race, according to prosecutors. Investigators reviewed home surveillance footage that allegedly showed Assi writing the slur. “Acts of racial intimidation are unacceptable,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said in a statement. “Everyone has a right to feel safe in their home and welcome in their neighborhood. There is no excuse for harassing or racially intimidating a family.” It wasn't immediately clear whether Assi had an attorney who could comment on his behalf. Novi police said they weren't sure what was used to write the message, but it

HOWELL — Grounds and Greens is determined to become the new go-to spot for golfers and coffee drinkers in Livingston County. For this week's Livingston in Photos, I visited the business after a soft opening Oct. 7 at 120 W. Highland Road (Suite 100) in Howell's Crossroads Town Center. Grounds and Greens is operated by Justin Czarnowski and Ali Abdallah, the latter of which owns the adjacent Howling Howell's Smoke Shop. The business is separated indoors, with golfing simulators on the left and coffee on the right. More: Golf simulators, coffee coming to former LACASA Collection in Howell Customers will find a menu full of espresso and drip coffee options, along with Abdallah's family chai recipe from Yemen, according to Czarnowski. There are also blended drink options, including the shop's popular Extreme Toffee Coffee. "We wanted to supply something that's good and we're also trying to be cost-conscious for people, too," Czarnowski told The Daily. "We're trying to be a little cheaper than other places because we understand what it's like out there." Pastries are made fresh with the help of Abdallah's sister-in-law,
