Authorities name person in Polk County fatal motorcycle crash
TOWN OF CLAYTON, Wis. (WEAU) - Authorities are naming the person who died following a motorcycle crash in the Town of Clayton Saturday. According to an updated press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the person who died in this crash was 53-year-old Richard Johnson of Almena, Wis.

SHELL LAKE — Washburn County District Attorney Aaron Marcoux announced that Antionette Brewer was convicted of conspiracy to deliver heroin. On Thursday, May 9, Brewer was sentenced to 25 years in the Wisconsin State Prison System, consisting of 15 years of initial incarceration followed by 10 years of extended supervision. This case concluded a multi-state heroin conspiracy investigation that was initiated in 2016. Eastern Minnesota authorities respond to 2 crashes involving bears in 1 night
CHISAGO COUNTY, Minn. — Two separate crashes in Chisago County overnight involved bears, authorities said.The first crash occurred on County Road 9 near Almelund around 10:30 p.m., according to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office."The truck faired pretty well all things considered," the sheriff's office said on social media. "Deputies tried to locate the bear using a thermal imaging device but were unsuccessful. Hopefully the bear lived to fight another day."The second happened on Interstate 35 around 1:20 a.m. The sheriff's office said the vehicle was drivable after the crash and no one was injured.There are as many as 18,000 black bears — the state's only bear species — in Minnesota, according to the Department of Natural Resources. While sightings in Chisago County are not uncommon, the sheriff's office said responding to two crashes involving bears in one is unusual.Last summer, there was a spate of bear sightings in the Twin Cities. Warrant issued for Balsam Lake man
A warrant has been issued for a Balsam Lake man who pleaded guilty to stealing a U-Haul but failed to appear in Barron County Circuit Court for a hearing on Wednesday. Christopher R. Foltos, 49, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, had been charged on July 17 with felony driving or operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent after the vehicle was tagged in Rice Lake by the FLOCK camera system. Foltos pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor theft on Feb. 9, and he was sentenced to 31 days in jail with credit for 31 days plus ordered to pay $8,235.82 in restitution.
