The Lubbock Police Department was called for shots fired just before 2:30 p.m. on May 1.
According to a police report, officers found the victim on the floor with gunshot wounds. A witness on scene was described as “hysterical” in the report. The witness told officers the victim owed someone money, according to the report. A neighbor reported hearing about three gunshots and saw a vehicle travel westbound on East Baylor Street before turning southbound on North Guava Avenue, the report stated.
Witnesses who were inside the home said the victim slept in the living room. According to the report, residents of the home told police they heard two to four gunshots. One witness in the home said she heard a gunshot and called police before leaving her room.
“She believed the shooter was still inside the residence and was going to shoot her too,” the report stated. The woman told police once she left her room, she did not see a suspect or vehicle.
The report detailed blood on the living room floor with trails of blood leading to the kitchen. An officer saw bullet holes on a box and on the door on the north side of the home. Four shell casings were found near the front door.
According to the report, the victim was taken to Covenant Medical Center by EMS. Police confirmed a Major Crimes callout was initiated. The report said detectives arrived at the scene and took over the investigation.
