    Comings and goings: Lubbock's openings, closings, confirmed rumors from April 2024

    Lubbock saw a wealth of business news from restaurants to retail in April. Here's a look at what opened, closed and confirmed upcoming spots in the Hub City.

    In April 2023 , there were 18 business announcements. April 2024 saw 15.

    Here's which Lubbock businesses opened or moved in April 2024

    Benito's #2

    What: Benito's Italian Cafe & Pizzeria announced it would open a second location in a former Mexican restaurant.

    When: Date

    Where: 3410 98th St., Suite 1112, formerly Señor Chubby's.

    Buckner Lubbock

    What: Buckner Lubbock moved its foster care and adoption services and the Buckner FYi Center offices to a new location. The new space will help Buckner "optimize resources, streamline operations, and enhance the efficiency of its services to vulnerable families," according to the company news release.

    When: April 11.

    Brewski

    What: Brewski, a liquor store, expanded its footprint in Lubbock with a new location.

    When: April 20.

    Dusty Coast Sodas

    What: A new drink stop opened this month, offering flavored sodas, lemonades and waters. Red Bull and Celsius drinks are available as well.

    When: April 15.

    What: The third HTeaO location added a new drink option to south Lubbock.

    J & J Garden Mart

    What: This gardening center moved to a new location.

    When: April 1.

    Where: 5929 Woodrow Road.

    Lubbock Indoor Pickleball

    What: Pickleball players welcomed a new facility in April, which offers memberships and classes. Interested people can visit liplbk.com to learn more and book sessions.

    When: April 18.

    Northwest Lubbock New Home Center

    What: Betenbough Homes opened its new center, which will serve the Matador Pointe, Cypress Ranch, Burgamy Park, and Westmont neighborhoods. These homes range from 1,000-2,500 square feet with 2-4 bedrooms and 2-3 bathrooms, starting at less than $1,500 a month.

    When: April 3.

    Where: 6402 19th St.

    Rudy's Scratch Kitchen

    What: Formerly the Roll'n Bros Food Truck, this new venture specializes in made-from-scratch food.

    When: April 19.

    Where: Mobile food truck.

    Hill Barbecue

    What: The owners of Hill Barbecue, 3017 34th St., announced in March that their restaurant in the iconic yellow house would close this spring.

    When: April 20.

    Where: 3017 34th St.

    Roll'n Bros Food Truck

    What: The food truck announced on March 17 that the final day would be April 19. A new owner will take over and rebrand the business as Rudy's Scratch Kitchen.

    When: April 19.

    Here's which businesses, restaurants confirmed or denied Lubbock locations in April 2024

    Aqua Cabana Water Park

    Denied: Aqua Cabana Water Park, a proposed 30-acre water park that claimed it would open in Lubbock in 2025, created a Facebook page in 2023. The group posted a since-deleted statement that it would no longer build in Lubbock, due to issues with the city.

    The city responded, pointing out that no one with the rumored park had reached out to them, and no LLC had been made for the park. The park also stole photos from a Tennessee water park, and the Tennessee park put out a statement that the fake park was not connected to them, nor was it allowed to use their images.

    Evie Mae's Pit Barbeque

    Pending closure: Evie Mae's Pit Barbeque inside of United Supermarkets at 114th Street and Slide Road announced it would close in mid-May. The decision follows a series of other changes in United's business decisions, which included ending their partnership with Buddy Holly Hall and getting rid of their store's salad bars.

    This location will continue with a barbeque offering under the name Smok'd Pit Barbecue.

    IHOP

    Confirmed: An IHOP location is being built at 7645 Marsha Sharp Freeway. Construction is set to begin in the next few months, and an opening date has not been set, according to a company spokesperson.

    Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming

    Announced: A new pet supplies business specializing in grooming and natural treats will open at 11430 Quaker Ave., Suite 700. An opening date has not been announced.
