On Friday, KNX News’ longtime traffic personality Jennifer York wrapped up her decades-long career in broadcast radio.

Before becoming a traffic reporter, she graduated from UCLA with a double major in political science and broadcasting. Her first job out of college was working as a segment producer for Good Morning America.

She also worked as a traffic reporter for KFWB and KTLA and served as the co-host of the morning show at KFSH 95.9 FM before taking her talents to KNX News.

In addition to her career as a traffic reporter, Jennifer is also a bassist. After leaving Good Morning America, she played in an all-girls band at Disneyland called Mis Behavin’. She continues to make music.

Throughout the Friday morning show, tributes poured in from Southern California residents.

Former KNX News anchor Dick Helton called Jennifer one of the most generous and decent people he’s ever known.

“When there's an accident and she says, ‘gosh, I hope everyone's okay,’ she really means it,” he said. “She really does care that you get where you're going safely every morning.”

He added that everything you need to know about Jennifer is in the joy of her voice.

Supervisor Janice Hahn called her the “air traffic controller of the freeways.”

“I just love the way you know all the side streets and you tell people what to take and what not to take,” she said.

Nancy from Hacienda Heights called Jennifer her “traffic guru.”

“You put a smile to my face when we're listening to sad things about the news and horrible things about the news,” she said.

Lauren Wonder with CalTrans remarked on Jennifer’s support for the department and its workers.

“I remember exactly 10 years ago you came to speak at our worker memorial to remember our fallen and that recognition means so much to us,” she said. “That support is wonderful to Caltrans and we thank you for that.”

Jennifer will be trading traffic for therapy. She will be working at Kaiser Permanente as a licensed marriage and family therapist.
