NBA Insider Drops Major Hint About Bronny James' Future

    By Kevin Borba,

With the Los Angeles Lakers season ending on Monday, the James family is still expected to be a major storyline of the offseason.

LeBron James is reportedly open to becoming a free agent this offseason, and even despite his age, could command quite a market. His oldest son Bronny is a former five-star recruit who spent his freshman season at USC and didn't quite live up to the hype. After originally being viewed as a potential top-10 pick, Bronny has since fallen off of draft boards with most analysts and NBA general managers thinking he should return to college.

In most cases, a player who averaged 4.8 points on 36% shooting from the field and 24% shooting from deep wouldn't even dare declare for the draft, but LeBron has expressed a desire to be on the same team as his son. A wish that may lead to the No. 90 ranked transfer to forgo his college eligibility.

While the James family usually moves in silence, NBA insider Brian Windhorst may have hinted at the plans for Bronny on Tuesday's Get Up.

When discussing whether or not he thinks Monday night's loss against Denver was James' final game with the Lakers, Windhorst revealed he doesn't think that's the case. Instead, he believes that James is using his free agency as leverage over the team to improve the roster, and also possibly draft his son with the couple of picks they will have.

"Number two, as you may have heard his son Bronny may be and I expect to be in this draft," said Windhorst . "The Lakers I think will keep their draft pick, the New Orleans Pelicans have the option to either take this year's pick or defer to next year. I believe the Pelicans will defer to next year. So I think the Lakers will go into the draft with the 17th overall pick and the 55th overall pick.

"LeBron has expressed an interest in possibly playing with his son. The Lakers will have potentially two chances to draft him."

If this were to come to fruition, it would be the ultimate chess not checkers move from James. Windhorst is known for being spot on when it comes to James, and him saying he expects Bronny James to be in the draft may have been the closest thing to a hint we will get until the actual decision is made.
