Kearney murder suspect headed to trial court
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A Kearney murder suspect is headed to trial court almost two and a half years after a Lexington man was shot and killed. Romeo Chambers, 27, appeared in Buffalo County Court Friday for an evidence hearing. His judge found probable cause and transferred the case to District Court for possible trial. Chambers is charged with second degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony, one court of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one count of first degree assault and one count of second degree assault.

Dawson County Man Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison for Role in Methamphetamine Conspiracy
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Leopoldo Ramirez, 25, of Lexington, Nebraska, was sentenced May 2, 2024, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and fentanyl. Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Ramirez to 132 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After Ramirez’ release from prison, he will begin a 5-year term of supervised release.
Lexington boys soccer heading back to Class B state championship
OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) - The NSAA state boys soccer tournament continued in Omaha on Saturday with the semifinal round. No. 4 Lexington took on 8-seed Mount Michael Benedictine in the Class B semifinals and won 2-0 to advance to the state championship game for the third time in four years.
Ravenna man convicted of 11 crimes related to 2023 assault
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A Ravenna man will be sentenced in July for 11 crimes related to alleged sexual assaults in April and May 2023. Brian Reeves, 40, pleaded no contest in a plea bargain. The sexual assault charges were reduced to 3rd degree domestic assault and strangulation. Prosecutors also charged Reeves with crimes in three related cases. The plea bargain included no contest pleas and convictions related to those cases including one count of attempted used of a deadly weapon, two counts of terroristic threats, two counts of false imprisonment, two counts of violating a protection order, one count of witness tampering and one count of misdemeanor third degree assault.
