East Texas cities look to fill seasonal jobs

LONGVIEW, Texas ( KETK ) – With summer break just a couple of months away, East Texas Cities and summer camps are looking to hire seasonal positions.

“Obviously, lifeguards are needed because we need people to keep our residents safe, while they’re using the public pools,” Yoleyne Romero, Longview Parks and Recreation’s marketing director, said.

The City of Longview and Jacksonville Parks and Recreation are hoping to bring on more lifeguards before the end of May.

Devin Fredrickson with Jacksonville’s Parks and Recreation shared how the opportunities for people of all ages.

“Young adults or maybe those that are retired, or even schoolteachers or people that have off seasons to get a summer job that usually meets the requirements of a full-time position,” Fredrickson said.

The City of Longview explains that hiring positions for aquatic centers this time of year is not just a struggle in their area.

“A national trend that lifeguards are needed and there’s a shortage all over the country,” Romero said.

Summer break also means camp for the younger ones.

“Water slides, inflatables, games, loud dance songs, music,” Jason Jones, Mentoring Alliance Summer Camp site coordinator, said.

The Mentoring Alliance is a Non-profit Christian Ministry that partners with Tyler ISD for their summer camp program. Mentoring Alliance, in Tyler is looking to fill 40 positions of leaders and camp counselors.

“[Summer staff] walk throughout the whole day with groups of kids, they’re really the hands on the ground, feet on the ground. They’re the ones that are with the kids every single day,” Jones said.

East Texas families can look forward to a safe and fun summer.

“Lifeguards are always needed in order to keep everyone safe and make sure that we’re complying with the right rules,” Romero said.
