CONWAY — South Carolina's first Wawa may be headed to a busy Little River intersection, a project developer announced Nov. 5. John and Katie Clairmont moved to their dream, log cabin-style home on 2 acres in Murrells Inlet six years ago. But that dream may vanish when the South Carolina Highway 22 Extension Project undergoes construction. The project, which has been in the works for nearly two decades , is in the public scoping stage where the initial 22 potential routes have been narrowed down to three. Two of which appear to run directly through the Clairmont’s home should they move forward. “I recognize the fact that Horry County is growing and needs infrastructure improvements. But that being said, they have to take into consideration the families that live in this area,” John Clairmont said. Formerly titled the Southern Evacuation Lifeline project (SELL), the highway intends to improve hurricane evacuation and traffic congestion while aiding services across the Waccamaw River. It’s currently slated to cost $1.56 billion for environmental mitigation and construction funded through Horry County’s RIDE 4 program . But the Clairmonts and other residents in the area are not convinced the project would serve the stated purpose and would increase traffic and development. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is administering a series of studies before authorizing a permit

When President Donald Trump traveled to Myrtle Beach in August to stump for Sen. Darline Graham, he told supporters he would return for a golf trip if the Republican senator won her election. If the president returns to the Grand Strand, it won’t be to make good on that promise. Despite support from Trump and other notable conservative politicians in and out of South Carolina, Graham failed to sway South Carolina voters at the ballot box. For the first time in decades, South Carolina elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate. Did the Myrtle Beach area flip blue for Dr. Annie Andrews or hold for Graham? Darline Graham’s run for office The late Sen. Lindsey Graham comfortably won his Republican primary in June. After his death in July, Gov. Henry McMaster appointed his sister, Darline Graham, to finish her brother’s term. For the Aug. 11 special Republican primary election, Sen. Darline Graham announced her intent to run for a full term. Graham took the lead in that initial primary, with 109,881 votes – roughly 32.75% – but failed to garner a majority. In Horry County, Graham took second place behind Republican U.S. Rep. Russell Fry, but the senator still secured

Republican U.S. Rep. Russell Fry will continue representing South Carolina’s 7th congressional district after voters reelected him for a third term. With all counties reporting, the incumbent congressman garnered roughly 56.71% of the votes with 172,308 ballots, based on preliminary results. “America’s future belongs to the people who show up with ideas,” Fry said in a statement. “The Democrat party has spent a lot of time telling America what’s wrong with it. They embraced socialism with open arms, an idea that has failed everywhere it’s been tried. Tonight, our district resoundingly rejected that.” Retired U.S. Navy Command Master Chief and small-business owner John Vincent, who represented the Democratic Party in South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District race, received an estimated 43.22% of votes, according to preliminary results. Fry first took office in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022 after serving seven years in the South Carolina House of Representatives. He was reelected in 2024 with roughly 71.4% of the vote. This election cycle, Fry bested Vincent to keep his congressional seat. It’s trash day in your neighborhood, and you have your can sitting along the curb waiting for pickup. Then along comes a neighbor walking their dog and throws their pet’s bag of feces into your trash can. Putting aside the fact that the act is not very neighborly, is it against the law? South Carolina law says that a person cannot “dump, throw, drop, deposit, discard, or otherwise dispose of litter or other solid waste upon ... private property in the State for which he is not the legal owner or a person otherwise granted permission by the legal owner.” Horry County has separate solid-waste rules , and using someone else’s bin without permission could still prompt a complaint. The law also states that “garbage” that is placed in trash cans for pickup “shall not include human or animal feces.” There are other city ordinances with rules about picking up and disposing of your pet’s waste. Myrtle Beach and pet poop Myrtle Beach’s ordinance says that it is unlawful to "fail to promptly remove and properly dispose of all feces left by the animal on any public property or any private property not owned by the owner.” It goes as
