The Harrisons Bay Association (HBA) has a mission to educate the community on ways that residents can impact the water quality of our bay. One way to do this is through landscaping practices that filter stormwater pollutants and keep that water out of our lake.

HBA and the University of Minnesota Extension Education Office will be hosting a free hands-on rain garden planting and design workshop on May 18 at 9 am. Attendees will receive training on plant selection and placement and each participant will leave with a rain garden plant list, an example of a rain garden design, resource links, and a selection of native plants.

Space in this workshop is limited and pre-registration is required.

Morning refreshments will be provided. The workshop will be held outside at the end of Apple Lane. Be prepared to get dirty.

Also, HBA had their second annual rain barrel distribution event. We had 140 residents of Mound, Minnetrista and Long Lake that purchased 180 rain barrels at a discount. Each rain barrel is projected to save 1,400 gallons of water usage each year.
