APGA Tour veteran Kevin Hall defeats pro golf debutante Grant Lester in a sudden-death playoff to win the APGA at Mission Hills
RANCHO MIRAGE, California (September 16, 2026) – The dichotomy of the two sudden-death playoff competitors was intriguingly sharp in contrast. On the 18th tee Wednesday afternoon stood Kevin Hall - a veteran of the APGA Tour since its inception in 2010 - and 21-year-old Grant Lester, who by his own admission, turned pro “technically yesterday. I’ve been a pro for, like, 36 hours.”

Ernest Righetti’s Massive Defeat Against Santa Barbara High School
Last Friday on September 11th, the Ernest Righetti High School Varsity football team suffered a massive defeat against Santa Barbara High School losing 42-0 on home ground. Righetti’s abundance of efforts couldn’t amount to Santa Barbara’s raw strength and effortless power. Both of the teams have 2 wins and 2 losses throughout this season. Despite Righetti’s massive loss, I went to the game with friends for the first time to witness the flawless school spirit and the varsity football team.

Sudden death of Rio Mesa baseball coach sends communities reeling
The Rio Mesa High and local baseball communities are reeling from the sudden loss of assistant coach Matt May. Head coach Jacob Regalado announced the death of his longtime third-base coach on social media on Thursday, Sept. 17. Rio Mesa players and alumni held a candlelight vigil in May’s memory on the baseball field Thursday night. A moment of silence in May’s honor is planned for Friday night’s Camarillo at Rio Mesa football game. “We are devastated by this loss,” wrote Regalado. “For so many of us, it is difficult to imagine Rio Mesa baseball without Coach May. “Coach May loved baseball, but even more than the game, he loved his players. He cared about the young men he coached, believed in them, challenged them, and took tremendous pride in watching them grow both on and off the field.” May, 38, who played under head coach David Soliz at Rio Mesa, had coached the Spartans since 2016. He missed much of the 2026 season recovering from heart surgery in March. “Several months ago, our amazing baseball community rallied around Coach May as he prepared for heart surgery,” wrote Regalado. “We were overwhelmed by the love and support shown by our

Kudos to coach Lou Panizzon
I enjoyed reading the Coastal View article (Sept. 3, 2026) about Lou Panizzon reuniting with the medic who saved his life 58 years ago in Vietnam. I was the band director at Carpinteria High School in the 1970s and 1980s when Lou was a highly successful football coach. Lou was certainly the coach that others aspired to be. He would jokingly thank me for allowing him to schedule a football game before and after the halftime show that everybody came to see.
