LAKE MILLS — With darkness setting in, Hayden Schoenherr clutched up for the Warriors.

Schoenherr’s walk-off single in the 11th inning gave Lakeside’s baseball a 3-2 victory over visiting Lodi in Capitol North action on Wednesday.

Logan Schwab started the 11th with a single. Crandon Dwyer then bunted Schwab to second, where he was replaced by pinch-runner Cooper Brakmanis. After Billy Gibson struck out, Schoenherr singled to right-center with two outs to end the marathon.

“We were finally able to execute there in the 11th,” Lakeside baseball coach Jake Ziel said. “Crandon executed his bunt perfectly, and Hayden came through big time. I’m extremely happy for Hayden, who is a terrific kid that works hard, so for him to have a moment like that is really cool.”

Lakeside, winners of five straight, came to bat in the sixth with just one hit and trailing 2-0. After Phil Becraft and Aidan Berg drew one-out walks, Thomas Dwyer lined a double to right field to make it 2-1. Tyler Chopp followed by lining a run-scoring single up the middle for the Warriors (10-3, 3-1 in conference).

Lakeside right-handers Aidan Berg and Nolan Meis were stout. Berg pitched the first seven innings, allowing two earned on four hits with four strikeouts before hitting the pitch limit. Nolan Meis relieved him and worked four no-hit innings with two strikeouts to earn the decision.

“Pitching and defense kept us in the game,” Ziel said. “Aidan pitched a great game against a good opponent. Lodi scored on a balk in the third and a RBI groundout in the sixth. Nolan came in and attacked the zone, tossing only 40 pitches in four scoreless innings. To pitch 11 combined innings and give up just four hits and two walks is exceptional.

“Offensively, we have a long way to go, but our pitching and defense has allowed us to stay in some of these games and give us a chance. Kale Schneider and Will Eckstein did a heck of a job for Lodi on the mound. They kept us off balance all night. We certainly had other chances and needed to execute better with men on base.”

Lakeside travels to face Mayville on Friday.
