Track and field: Lodi boys win Sauk Relays

The Lodi boys’ track and field team topped Holmen and the rest of the field at the Sauk Relays on Friday.

“Sauk Relays is one of our favorite meets as it gives us a break from tradition events,” said Lodi head coach Randy Skellenger. “In the field, the top mark from three indivduals is summed to create a final team result. With the relays we see nontraditional events such as the shuttle hurdle relay, throwers relay, medley relay, distance medley relay, sprint medley along with the four traditionally contested events.”

According to Skellenger, one of the highlights was Isaiah Groskopf breaking the 50-feet mark with a toss of 50-7. The Lodi boys totaled 89 points, compared to 83 for Holmen at the eight-team meet.

“On the girls’ side, we had a tough time filling relays and had several girls out for the meet,” said Skellenger. “The (high jump) team of Olivia Heyroth, Natalie Kelly and Reese Ryan took the top spot in that event to highlight the girls top finishers.

Skellenger added, “With meet cancelllations and postponements we’ve had a tough time getting opportunities for the athletes. We’re hopeful that as the weather improves we’ll get more reps for everyone and round into form as we enter May.”

Lodi had a meet at Belleville last week that was moved to next Monday.
