Remember the White Candy That Seemed to Appear in Every Grandma’s Christmas Tin?

Divinity is one of those old-fashioned candies that can instantly bring back a kitchen you haven’t stood in for years. Light, fluffy, and almost cloud-like, it’s nothing like dense fudge or chewy caramel. The outside sets with a delicate finish while the center stays soft and airy, with that unmistakable melt-away sweetness that made it a holiday candy-table favorite. It looks deceptively simple, but anyone who grew up watching a grandmother, aunt, or church-supper expert make a batch probably remembers there was a little technique involved. When it turns out right, those snowy spoonfuls look beautiful piled onto a platter—and somehow taste even better after you’ve spent years wondering why people stopped making them.

I Went To Italy and Was Given This Recipe From Our Bed and Breakfast Host

This Italian sausage pasta sauce was a real winner with my husband. I think he liked that it’s a meaty, creamy sauce instead of a traditional red sauce. Sausage, tomatoes, cream, and parmesan come together so it tastes like something from a little trattoria.

When the whole family arrives at once, toddlers in the guest room and grown kids taking over the couch, the kitchen shifts into a different gear entirely. It's not one dinner. It's breakfasts, lunches, something hot when someone comes in from the cold at noon, and a real dinner every night for eight people who keep different schedules.

7 Christmas Cookie Exchange Recipes from the 1950s and 1960s

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. The neighborhood cookie exchange was a particular kind of holiday institution. Someone hosted, everyone brought a large batch of one cookie, and you left with a tin full of a dozen different kinds. It ran hot in the postwar decades, when neighborhoods were dense with young families and baking was still part of how households got ready for December.

Five-Minute Fudge Is the Kind of Old-School Shortcut Worth Keeping Around

Homemade fudge sounds like the sort of candy that requires a thermometer, perfect timing, and somebody’s handwritten family recipe telling you exactly when to stop stirring. This Paula Deen-inspired 5-minute version goes in the opposite direction. It’s all about getting that rich, creamy chocolate payoff without turning candy-making into an afternoon project. The mixture comes together quickly, then settles into dense, smooth squares that look right at home in an old-fashioned candy tin. Each piece is rich enough to satisfy with just a few bites—although that rarely stops anyone from cutting a second sliver. It’s the kind of recipe that makes sense when the chocolate craving hits unexpectedly or you suddenly remember you promised to bring something sweet tomorrow.
