Leon Hendrix invokes his brother Jimi’s legacy in a new call to save democracy

Sixty years ago, a young photographer in England stood in a hotel lobby and met an American guitarist dressed like an eighteenth-century nobleman. The photographer, then a reporter’s assistant, remembers that the musician looked “more like the King of an African nation than a musician.” Nobody in Darlington had heard of Jimi Hendrix yet. Within a few years, the whole world had.

Now his brother is asking the country to pay attention again. Leon Hendrix has released a new single, “Save Democracy,” which he describes as a call to awareness as Americans prepare for a historic midterm election on November 3, 2026, and a presidential election in 2028. A preview of the full recording is available.

According to Leon Hendrix, he was raised by Jimi and carries his brother’s compassion into his own music and art. The release frames the song as a reminder that ordinary people can take back a democracy they feel has slipped away. That message is the song’s core, and it’s why the single is being promoted now, as protesters prepare to gather in Pasadena and nationwide under the No Kings! banner tomorrow.

In 1967, Jimi’s first English shows were played to rooms of about 100 people, and the local press barely noticed. The breakthrough came from people who took his work seriously when others didn’t. Leon’s supporters hope the same thing can happen for a song about civic responsibility: that a message dismissed as a fringe concern can reach millions if enough people decide it matters.
