Witch way to the polls?

The League of Women Voters Pasadena Area’s Halloween-themed 5K turns voter registration into a treat this October — but the early-bird price vanishes after September 14.

Grab your broomstick and your ballot — Los Angeles County’s most delightfully spooky civic event is back. On Sunday, October 11, the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area and Greater Los Angeles will transform Griffith Park into a Halloween wonderland for “Witch Way to the Polls,” a family-friendly 5K walk with a mission that’s anything but scary: making sure every eligible resident is registered and ready to vote before the November 3 General Election.

Local News Pasadena is proud to be a media partner for this year’s event, cheering on a cause close to home — an informed, engaged Greater Pasadena Area.

There’s nothing tricky about the fun on tap. Walkers can expect a costume contest, trick-or-treating, live music, face painting, and voter registration booths scattered along the route, all designed to make democracy feel less like a trick and more like a treat. Cash prizes await the first three finishers to cross the finish line, and every participant goes home with a commemorative pin — no candy bag required.

“We want as many Los Angeles County residents as possible at this event,” said Colleen Donovan, Witch Way to the Polls Event Co-Chair alongside Martha Zavala. “After September 14, the price goes up — so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the time to register before the deal disappears like a witch at midnight.”

The timing couldn’t be more fitting. Ballots for the November 3 General Election start hitting mailboxes on October 5, just days before the walk. Organizers say the goal is simple: catch residents while voting is top of mind, and send them home ready — registered, informed, and maybe a little more festive about it than they expected.
