Illinois invests $156 million for affordable housing
By Brian Weckerly,
4 hours agoIllinois is investing $156 million in an affordable housing program.
Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) announced a $156 million investment for the Building Up Illinois Developments (BUILD) plan. Support goes to programs that increase the housing supply and make home ownership more attainable, like forgivable down payments and closing costs and low-income housing tax credits.
“BUILD is a comprehensive plan designed to tackle rising housing costs from every angle and provide assistance to Illinoisans at every opportunity,” Pritzker said. “These programs are meaningful actions to invest in homes the market isn’t delivering and help families it isn’t reaching, but public investment alone cannot produce all the housing Illinois needs. Looking forward, we must also confront the regulations that make it harder and more expensive to build housing so that the door to homeownership is opened to more Illinoisans.”
