Officials said the baby was surrendered to Iowa Health and Human Services in October. Work is now underway to place the baby in the care of a foster family until a permanent home can be found.
Charges filed for suspects in private gun sale gone wrong in AltoonaHHS said this is the 83rd baby to be surrendered under the Safe Haven law since it went into effect over two decades ago. The law allows parents in crisis to surrender their infants up to 90 days old to safe locations like hospitals and fire stations. HHS then works to place the baby in a foster home.
