Clinton postponing data center zoning public hearing
By Sharon Wren,
1 days agoClinton is postponing tonight’s scheduled public hearing about the proposed data center zoning ordinance, according to a news release from the city.
The city provided notice of the public hearing, according to the applicable requirements of Iowa state law, but while preparing for the hearing, a provision within the city’s zoning regulations was identified that references a seven-day notice requirement for certain zoning-related public hearings. The language of that provision is somewhat unclear regarding the specific types of zoning actions or amendments where the seven-day requirement applies. At this time, Clinton is not making a determination that the provision applies to the proposed data center ordinance.
Clinton has decided to postpone the meeting schedule for Oct. 8 and will provide additional notice before rescheduling the hearing out of an abundance of caution. This ensures that the city exceeds the applicable notice requirements and gives the public additional time and opportunities to review the proposed ordinance and participate in the public hearing process.
A new date and time for the public hearing will be established, and a new public notice will be published in advance of the hearing. The Special Council meeting will proceed as scheduled because the agenda includes an additional item unrelated to the data center ordinance.
