Rock Island

1 airlifted to Iowa City after bicycle/vehicle crash in Rock Island

One person was airlifted to Iowa City after a crash between a vehicle and a bicyclist in Rock Island this afternoon.

An email from the Rock Island Police Department said officers responded to the 3500 block of 5^th Avenue on September 17 at about 1 p.m. for a report of a single vehicle vs. bicyclist traffic crash.

The bicyclist was taken to UnityPoint Hospital in Rock Island and later airlifted to Iowa City in serious condition. The vehicle’s driver was taken to a hospital for investigation and then released.

Members of the newly formed MCAT (Major Crash Assistance Team) are investigating the incident. Fifth Avenue is closed in both directions during the investigation. No further information is available at this time.
