Davenport Police Department swears in 3 officers

Three police officers were sworn in at a Davenport City Council meeting.
According to a release from the Davenport Police Department, Officer Cheryl Glider, Officer Bennett Vanderheiden and Officer Ryan Welzenbach took the oath and were sworn in September 2.
Cheryl Glider was born and raised in Littleton, CO. She joined the United States Air Force in 2008 and served as an engineering assistant. While serving she also obtained a degree in criminal
justice and met her husband. Upon leaving the Air Force, Cheryl worked as a police officer in Derby, KS for three years and later for one year as a 911 dispatcher for the Scott Emergency
Communications Center.
Bennett Vanderheiden was born in Carroll, Iowa and grew up in Orion, Illinois. He graduated from Orion High School in 2016. He later completed a four-year electrical apprenticeship and spent seven years as an electrician, with work taking him around the world, including both Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Ryan previously served with the Davenport Police Department from 2021 to 2024, when he left to pursue a full-time position with the Iowa National Guard. Ryan is now returning to the Department and will continue to serve in the Reserves as an infantryman.

Advocate describes Denver homeless person dying of overdose in their hands
Z Williams told the Denver City Council Monday that a homeless person died in their hands as they unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate them after an overdose. Several people spoke about overdose at the council meeting during public comment period. They criticized city officials for not doing enough to prevent overdose in Denver.

Roger John Ellison has been missing from Cedaredge, Colorado (Delta County), since February 10, 1981, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
